Artist name: Mena

Biography: Rigoberto Mena Santana is considered an important painter of his generation. He is one of the very few artists in Cuba that have a private art gallery. Mena's private gallery at the Plaza de Armas competes with the neighboring government art gallery. His work has been exhibited in Mexico, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, and Holland. Mena's art has never been displayed in the United States. He was born in Havana in 1961, where he currently lives and works. He attended Instituto Politecnico de Diseno Industrial, La Habana, from 1986-87 and continued his studies from 1988-89 at Escuela de Artes Plasticas, San Alejandro, La Habana (National Art School). He has traveled throughout Europe to study the great paint masters. Mena's artwork was recently shown with great praise on the NBC television show Sunrise.

Included in the purchase of the painting is a June 1999 photo of Rigoberto Mena in Havana, Cuba. I am also including a four-page color brochure of a recent Mena art exhibition -- to preserve the value of the paintings. Because his art is considered a national treasure, I had to secure legal permission to export these four pieces. Included in the sale is a copy of the "certificate of exportation from the Registrar of National Bureau of Cultures Republic of Cuba." This document authenticates the painting and painter as Cuban.
