Artist name: David Reni Figueredo

Biography: David Reni Figueredo is an original and provocative artist. He is the second most popular selling Cuban artist currently on Ebay. We have sold ten of his paintings and this represents his latest from Cuba. Figueredo's paintings have been shown in two Cuban art exhibits here in the United States. He is an Afro-Cuban and lives and works in Central Havana, Cuba. Figueredo says his biggest influences are: "sex, power and love." His artwork was featured recently on NBC Sunrise show. David's paintings speak of the anguish and pain Cuban people experience in their day-to-day lives in Communist Cuba. Figueredo's bleak portraits of life in Cuba offer a stark contrast to Cuban artists who are either uncritical of the Cuban government or simply choose to present happier imagery. Figueredo risks being banned from displaying his art in Cuba by depicting images that could be construed as politically motivated or critical of the regime. He cited the lack of privacy in the lives of people and a feeling of being constantly watched by the communist party and the neighborhood Committees for the Defense of the Revolution as an inspiration for his work.
